NU Online News Service, March 25, 1:03 p.m. – Rhode Island has added a stable value investment option from AEGON Institutional Markets to its 529 college savings program.

Rhode Island will now offer the stable value option, the Principal-Protection Income Portfolio, as one of six core options.

The college savings program also offers nine customized mutual funds.

Stable value funds are funds that try to beat money-market returns with a very low risk investment strategy, usually by combining bond portfolios with wrapper contracts issued by insurance companies or banks.

AEGON Institutional is a unit of AEGON N.V., The Hague, Netherlands.
