NU Online News Service, Feb. 25, 12:55 p.m. – Delta Dental Plans of Michigan, Ohio and Indiana, Okemos, Mich., has agreed to use a 24-hour hotline from Europ Assistance, Paris, to help members who need emergency dental care while traveling outside the United States.

The English-speaking customer service representatives who operate the hotline can give callers contact information for qualified dentists in more than 130 countries, Michigan Delta says.

Michigan Delta will add the hotline feature to its existing individual and group dental products at no extra charge, the company says.

The Delta Dental system plays a role in the U.S. dental market similar to the role that the Blue Cross and Blue Shield system plays in the major medical market.

Michigan Delta, one of many independent companies in the system, provides dental insurance for 4.5 million people.
