NU Online News Service, Feb. 12, 1:29 p.m. – Eastbridge Consulting Group Inc., Avon, Conn., has published a report on the market for voluntary vision, dental and prescription drug benefits.

Researchers at the marketing firm found after talking to 14 insurers, more than 200 brokers and more than 100 benefit managers that benefit managers are skeptical about the future of voluntary insurance products and discount programs.

Both carriers and brokers expect employers to shift away from employer-paid dental and vision plans, but benefit managers expect employers that already have the plans to stick with them, Eastbridge says.

Brokers are enthusiastic about inexpensive discount-only plans, but insurers and benefit managers both expect insured plans to continue to dominate the market, Eastbridge says.
