Canadian Insurer Reports Higher Net Income

NU Online News Service, Feb. 5, 10:09 a.m. – Sun Life Financial Services of Canada Inc., Toronto, is reporting the equivalent of $159 million in net income for the fourth quarter of 2001 on $3.1 billion in revenue, up from $141 million in net income for the fourth quarter of 2000 on $2.7 billion in revenue.

Assets under management increased to $221 billion, from $199 billion.

The U.S. annuity and insurance operations generated $57 million in net income on $1.6 billion in revenue, up from $43 million in net income on $1.2 billion in revenue.

The conversions here are based on an exchange rate of $1=1.5911 Canadian dollars for the 2001 results, and an exchange rate of $1=1.4988 Canadian dollars for the 2000 results, using figures provided by OANDA Corp., New York.
