Griswell Succeeds Drury At Principal

NU Online News Service, Nov. 28, 12:41 p.m. – The Principal Financial Group Inc., Des Moines, Iowa, says J. Barry Griswell has succeeded David Drury as chairman.

Drury has been chairman since 1995, and Griswell has been president of Principal since 1998. The appointment of Griswell as chairman was planned well in advance, Principal says.

Griswell joined the company in 1988 as agency vice president.

He has a a bachelor's degree from Berry College and a master's degree from Stetson University. He holds the Chartered Life Underwriter and the Chartered Financial Consultant desginations.

Griswell is a member of the boards of the American Council of Life Insurers, Washington, and the S.S. Huebner Foundation for Insurance Education.

Griswell is also a past chair of LIMRA International, Windsor, Conn., and the Life Underwriting Training Council Board of Trustees, Bryn Mawr, Pa.

Drury joined Principal in 1966. He was chief actuary and head of the investment department before becoming the chairman.
