NU Online News Service, Oct. 8, 3:12 p.m. – Blue Cross & Blue Shield United of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, says the sales component of its Web site has generated more than $2 million of premium revenue since the company launched bluecrosswisconsin.com a little more than a year ago.

"We are providing an average of 1,500 quotes a week to individuals looking for insurance and about 50 quotes a week to small businesses," says Keith Bell, Blue Cross & Blue Shield United of Wisconsin's Internet team manager. "Over $1.5 million in premium revenue was generated from the sale of individual insurance plans alone."

Buying online can be more convenient for consumers, and can save them money, the company says.

"Often, online quotes can be as much as five to six percent lower than that received from an insurance agency," Bell says.
