NU Online News Service, Oct. 2, 3:55 p.m. – LIMRA International, Windsor, Conn., says life insurers are taking extra steps to help customers cope with the Sept. 11 attacks.

An informal survey found that many LIMRA companies are paying all claims related to the attacks without considering "act of war" exclusions; setting up special claims processing units and procedures; and easing death claim documentation requirements.

At least one company had grief counselors available for consultation with beneficiaries and other survivors.

Many insurers are donating to disaster relief funds, and one has set up a million-dollar relief fund for the families of rescue workers killed in the attack, LIMRA says.
