NU Online News Service, Sept. 21, 12:18 p.m. – Virginia Insurance Commissioner Al Gross has first-hand knowledge of the effects of the World Trade Center disaster: he says he and three department colleagues were walking to an appointment at MMC Risk Services in the South Tower early Sept. 11.
The appointment had been postponed to 9 a.m., from 8:30 a.m.
When Gross was half a block from the trade center, he saw a plane flying very low overhead. The plane hit the North Tower.
Twenty minutes later, as Gross and his colleagues were hurrying north and west, away from the burning North Tower, a second plane hit the South Tower.
Gross says he found out later that the MMC executives who had hoped to meet with him had made it to street level and run east to safety.
