NAIC Reopens Securities Valuation Office

NU Online News Service, Sept. 17, 10:35 a.m. – The National Association of Insurance Commissioners is reopening its Securities Valuation Office, which destroyed in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, today in borrowed space at 1 Madison Ave., New York.

The NAIC is borrowing the space from MetLife Inc.

The SVO office originally was located in World Trade Center Building Number 7. All 44 NAIC employees were safely evacuated before the building collapsed, the NAIC says.

A plan for reopening the SVO was under way within hours after the catastrophe, according to the NAIC.

Filers can reach the SVO at 212-578-2300.

All calls to the old SVO office numbers will be rerouted to the NAIC main switchboard in Kansas City, Mo.

All NAIC systems are fully operational. Companies can continue to submit new "Authorizations to File" online. But the NAIC is requesting that companies also mail the accompanying documents to the NAIC headquarters at 2301 McGee, Suite 800, Kansas City, Mo. 64108.
