NU Online News Service, Aug. 20, 10:16 a.m. – The Aid Association for Lutherans, Appleton, Wis., says it is trying to help Wisconsin Electric Power Company, Milwaukee, cope with peak summer power demands.

The fraternal benefit society has a verbal agreement with Wisconsin Electronic not to use more than 2,000 kilowatts of power at a time at its home office building and other buildings in downtown Appleton.

The association has a system it can use to comply with the limit by cutting electricity use by 8 kilowatts to 228 kilowatts. The system can immediately dim lighting in corridors and on some floors of the home office building.

The association also has put motion sensors in employee cubicles. When a sensor fails to detect motion for a set amount of time, it shuts off the lighting and the computer monitor.
