NU Online News Service, Aug. 14, 7:35 p.m. – Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, a subsidiary of MetLife Inc., New York, has hired Dental X Change Inc., Irvine, Calif., a dental data communications company, to add a free, Web-based dental claims submission service to its dental provider Web site, at http://www.metdental.com

Dentists can already use the MetLife dental site to get specific information about the 17 million members of MetLife dental plans, such as eligibility for coverage and status of claims.

If all goes as planned, dentists should be able to use the Dental X Change system to submit electronic claims to all dental carriers, not just MetLife, MetLife says.

"In order to maximize usage and satisfaction, we feel it is mission-critical to offer dental offices a Web-based claim submission solution that is multi-payer, free and easy to use," Todd Katz, vice president of MetLife Dental, said in a statement.

MetLife has backed the multi-payer concept by purchasing a minority ownership stake in Dental X Change, as well as agreeing to use the Dentalxchange electronic claims submission system.
