UnitedHealth Reports Higher Second Quarter Net Income

NU Online News Service, July 27, 2:05 p.m. – The UnitedHealth Group Inc., Minnetonka, Minn., is reporting $223 million in net income for the second quarter on $5.8 billion in revenue, compared with $170 million in net income on $5.2 billion in revenue for the second quarter of 2000.

Operating income, which excludes taxes and interest charges, increased to $384 million, from $288 million.

UnitedHealth provides insured health coverage through UnitedHealthcare, and health plan administrative services through Uniprise.

UnitedHealthcare earned $233 million for the second quarter on $4 billion in revenue and 8.6 million members, up from $179 million in operating income on $3.7 billion in revenue and 8.1 million members.

Revenue per member increased to $465, from $457, and income per member increased to $27, from $22.

Uniprise earned $93 million on $615 million in revenue and 8 million members, up from $72 million on $542 million and 6.6 million members.

Revenue per member fell to $77, from $82, but income per member increased to $12, from $11.
