Lake To Head AFLAC Operations In Japan

NU Online News Service, June 29, 2:02 p.m. – AFLAC Inc., Columbus, Ga., says its AFLAC Japan unit has promoted Charles Lake II to deputy president and general counsel.

Lake will serve as the unit's general counsel and oversee its operations in Japan.

He joined AFLAC Japan in June 1999 as vice president and counsel.

Previously, Lake worked as a trade policy official in the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, and as an international trade lawyer in the Washington office of Dewey Ballantine L.L.P.

Lake grew up in Tokyo. He received a bachelor's degree in Asian studies and political science from the University of Hawaii at Manoa in 1985, and a law degree from George Washington University in 1990.

Lake serves on the board of the International Insurance Council and the Japanese government's Financial Systems Council Working Group on Insurance. He also chairs the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan Subcommittee on Insurance and is a member of the Japan Association of Corporate Executives.
