NU Online News Service, June 28, 1:15 p.m. – The New York State Insurance Department has certified HAYES Plus Inc., Lansdale, Pa., to handle external reviews of health plan decisions.
In New York, consumers can appeal to external review organizations when state-regulated plans deny coverage for medical services on the grounds that the services are not medically necessary, or are experimental or investigational.
HAYES Plus has been performing external reviews in states other than New York for several years.
The other organizations certified to handle external reviews in New York are Medical Care Management Corp., Bethesda, Md., and Island Peer Review Organization, Lake Success, N.Y.
