AAHP: Poll Shows Little Support For Unlimited Lawsuits

NU Online News Service, June 26, 11:05 a.m. – American voters are opposed to the idea of unlimited lawsuits, according to a recent tracking poll of 1,200 voters conducted by Ayres, McHenry & Associates, Atlanta, and commissioned by the American Association of Health Plans, a national trade organization representing health maintenance organizations, preferred provider organizations, and other similar health plans.

Newspaper editorials over the last week have expressed skepticism toward awarding trial lawyers a new right to sue health plans and employers, says AAHP, headquartered in Washington.

According to the poll, when asked which side voters agree with – those who prefer an appeals process but would allow unlimited lawsuits or those who prefer an appeals process but would limit lawsuits – voters sided with those who want to limit lawsuits by a 60% to 31% margin, AAHP says.
