When developing a digital preservation strategy, take the following features into consideration.

Longevity: What files can be stored digitally for three to five years, after which time theyll be discarded? Which files require true, multi-decade preservation?

Interoperability: Will the technology youve chosen be compatible with new preservation systems 10, 20, or even 100 years from now?

Total cost of ownership: Have you factored in multiple costs, including initial expenditures, storage media, operations, maintenance, and conversion/migration?

Backup and recovery: Who will be responsible for backing up the preservation system? How accessible, reliable, and rapid are recovery methods?
