Ask the following questions to begin assessing your risk for digital data loss, focusing on documents that require storage and access beyond five years.

How many documents do employees create in electronic formats such as word processing and spreadsheet files?

What paper-based documents are scanned into digital format, followed by destruction of the originals?

How many reports and statements are generated in digital-only form by accounting, EDI, and e-commerce systems?

In what manner is the above information stored, and how often will it need to be accessed in the coming decades?
