J. Spero Zacharias has taken over from Sal Branca as the head of ACORD, a major insurance technology standards group.

Zacharias, a senior vice president at Chubb, is now the chairman of ACORD's board, and Tony Mattiolio is the vice chair.

Branca, a senior vice president at American International Group Inc., gave up his seat on the ACORD board to focus on his work at AIG, ACORD said.

ACORD is a nonprofit group based in Pearl River, New York. It sets international standards for the forms and electronic systems that insurers, insurance distributors and other insurance system players use to exchange information.

Zacharias comes from a company best known for writing property-casualty insurance, but he manages international field operations for the accident and health division.

The Chubb accident and health division offers health insurance products that fall outside the scope of the Affordable Care Act rules for U.S. major medical coverage.

Zacharias has been involved with operations for products such as travel insurance, business travel accident insurance, and medical insurance for workers traveling outside their home countries.
