Betterment introduced a new messaging feature through its app that allows investors to communicate with certified financial planners. The robo-advisor announced Wednesday that the in-app messaging tool will allow users to ask questions securely of Betterment financial experts at any time.

The messaging tool is available at no cost to Betterment Digital and Premium users. Premium account holders will still have unlimited calls to CFPs on Betterment's team.

Alex Benke, vice president of financial advice and investing at Betterment and a CFP, said in a statement, "We're always looking for ways to further personalize our offering so customers get the help they need in the way that works for their individual needs and preferences."

In January, Betterment veered away from the strictly digital offering it started as by splitting its service tiers and adding access to advice from CFPs and other licensed professionals.

Benke added, "Giving all customers the ability to connect with our experts through our app is a natural extension of this year's announcement of access to CFP professionals and licensed experts, and meets the needs of a growing, increasingly diverse customer base that wants more flexibility."

The tool is available now and will be automatically rolled out to current users when they update the app.
