New Hire Roundup: MarketCounsel Hires 2 to Expand Business Growth

This week in personnel announcements and new hires, U.S. Bank welcomed Steve Bellman and Brian Polley to new positions; Ankur Crawford and Patrick Kelly moved up at Alger; the Financial Services Roundtable welcomed Chris Feeney; and American Citizens Abroad added Michael Larsen to its board of directors.

Also, Ballard Spahr welcomed Dirk Michels; Merrill Lynch expanded its Santa Barbara office; Pensionmark welcomed an affiliate in Hawaii; and Frank Medina joined Better Markets.

MarketCounsel Adds Two From SEI, KCG Holdings

Regulatory compliance consulting firm MarketCounsel announced two new hires. Andrew Greenstein, who was deputy general counsel and managing director at KCG Holdings Inc. (formerly Knight Capital Group Inc.), now assumes the reigns as the MarketCounsel's chief business counsel.

He will oversee several aspects of the business launch, including equity structuring, company governance and financing. Greenstein will also lead business-related issues within the advisor's lifecycle and deal structuring, including financing, succession planning and business combinations such as mergers and acquisitions.

Greenstein spent 16 years with KCG Holdings leading all corporate transactional matters, as well as ensuring compliance with SEC, NYSE and Sarbanes-Oxley rules and regulations. He earned his B.S., MBA and J.D. at the University of Maryland. 

Andrew Brick joins the MarketCounsel as project manager. Brick hails from SEI Investments, where he was responsible for business development, marketing and business planning and relationship management with registered investment advisors.

Merrill Lynch Expands Santa Barbara Advisory Office

Merrill Lynch has announced the expansion of its Santa Barbara advisory office with the addition of the advisory practice of Matt Yonally and Chris Compogiannis. The team brings with it Amy Moore and Brenda Coy, client associates.

The team will report to Linda Patel, market executive.

Pensionmark Welcomes Hawaii Western Investment Services

Hawaii Western Investment Services has affiliated with Pensionmark Financial Group. T. Michael Hogan Jr. will be the managing director of the new location in Honolulu.

Hogan brings more than 27 years of experience in the investment, employee benefits and financial services industry. From 1987-89 he was lead employee benefits and financial services representative for Aetna Life and Casualty. Most recently, he managed the retirement plan services department at Bank of Hawaii, which purchased his investment advisory and employee benefits firm in 2006. U.S. Bank Names Bellman, Polley

U.S. Bank has announced that Steve Bellman has been named managing director of investments for Ascent Private Capital Management in San Francisco, and Brian Polley was appointed wealth management advisor for the Private Client Reserve in Minneapolis.

Bellman has more than 25 years of leadership experience in the financial services industry and joins from PNC, where he was a regional investment director.

Polley, with more than 15 years of experience within the banking and financial services industry, previously held the position of senior investment consultant at Allodium Investments.

Crawford, Kelly Advance at Alger

Fred Alger Management Inc. has announced that Ankur Crawford, Ph.D., is joining Patrick Kelly as portfolio manager on the Alger capital appreciation, Alger capital appreciation focus, and Alger Spectra strategies. Additionally, Patrick was named head of the Alger capital appreciation and Spectra strategies.

Crawford has worked on the investment team for over 10 years. Kelly has been with the firm since 1999 and has served as portfolio manager since 2004.

Feeney Joins FSR

The Financial Services Roundtable welcomed Chris Feeney as president of FSR's technology division, BITS.

Feeney previously was managing director and chief information officer for LPL Financial and is currently president of CF Feeney Consulting. He has served as an executive at financial and technology firms including Thomson Financial, Bank of America, Telerate and Multex Inc. ACA Adds Larsen to Board

American Citizens Abroad Inc. has announced the addition of Michael Larsen, chairman of its newly created London chapter, to its board of directors.

Larsen is a senior managing director at Harbert Management Corp., which he joined in 2004. Prior to that, he held a variety of senior management roles in Europe and the Middle East, including two years as executive director at a Swiss investment advisor. Earlier he was a business manager for Citigroup Asset Management. During the 20 years he was with Citigroup and Citibank, he held positions in New York, Bahrain, London, Zurich and Geneva. He returned to the U.K. in 2005.

Ballard Spahr Welcomes Michels

Ballard Spahr has welcomed energy technology and renewable energy lawyer Dirk Michels as a partner in the business and finance department and energy and project finance group. He will be based in Los Angeles.

Michels spent 20 years practicing law in California and Germany. Earlier he was general counsel of Solartech, and currently is general counsel of the Solar Energy Finance Association.

Medina Joins Better Markets

Better Markets has announced that Frank Medina has joined as senior counsel and director of research.

Medina joins from the professional staff of the House Financial Services Committee, where he was deputy chief counsel and senior counsel. Earlier, he served as a senior attorney at the SEC; associate general counsel at Citigroup, Inc.; and was an associate at the law firms of Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering and Cravath, Swaine & Moore.
